19th century Flemish cylinder bureau
Late 19th century
This Flemish cylinder bureau offers drawer and cupboard space above with further drawers below. The bureau is opened with a roll top mechanism which is weighted so it is easy to open and close, offering very good working space with the slide out surface, and even more drawer and pigeon hole space.
The top section is very interesting as when the central faux drawer section is opened, you have two locking slides which you can then lock or unlock all of the side drawers which is a simple but great solution to having too many locks and keys. Below the writing surface you have three full width drawers too.
The whole bureau is delicately carved and it sits very well for a large piece of furniture, helped also by the warm oak tones not being too dark. It splits into two parts, so moving and handling the bureau is no problem. Good solid condition and a very unusual piece of antique furniture.
